Dunwalke Preserve
History of Dunwalke Preserve
Dunwalke Preserve, owned by Andrew Allen, is located within the bucolic rolling hills of Dunwalke Farm in Somerset County, New Jersey. Dunwalke Farm was founded in 1928 by Andrew’s great grandfather Clarence Dillon, the former head of the Wall Street firm of Dillon, Read & CO., Dunwalke Farm is home to five generations of Dillon family members and was named after their ancestral families, the Duns and the Walkes.
Over the years, several houses were built on the estate for various family members, including Clarence Dillon’s son, former U.S. Treasury Secretary C. Douglas Dillon, daughter, Dorothy Dillon Allen, and is now home to Dorothy’s children and grandchildren.
Nestled into Andrew's personal 85 acres of Dunwalke Farm, is Dunwalke Preserve, a commercial hunting preserve. For the past three years, Andrew, together with his wife Ali, have been renovating and restoring an old horse stable on the property, which has come to be known as Dunwalke Preserve. The renovated barn is now home to a beautifully decorated club house. Andrew and Ali have taken their time outfitting the Preserve with furnishings and art from their travels around the world. The space was created as a place to gather for lunch after pheasant shoots and to host barn suppers and other events. The Preserve has become recognized as one of Somerset County’s finest, and most private, upland bird hunting destinations.
